Try a Castor Oil Pack for Detox and More!
Jennifer Morganti, ND, Director of Education for NEEDS

The topical use of castor oil packs dates back to the early 1800s, made popular by Edgar Cayce. It is a great old fashioned remedy that has withstood the test of time, known for helping a wide range of ailments, including constipation, menstrual irregularities, endometriosis, uterine fibroids, promoting lymph flow and supporting the liver in detoxification.

The castor oil pack should be applied to the problem area, for example, use it on your lower abdomen for endometriosis. The process can be a little messy, but you'll find that the results make it well worth the effort. There are many ways to create a castor oil pack, but here is one that I find to be simple, inexpensive, and effective.

Soak the wool or cotton flannel in castor oil, but not to the point where the cloth is dripping. Fold the cloth to the size that is appropriate for where you want to use it. I recommend keeping it in a microwave-safe glass pan, such as a pie pan. When you are ready to use it, just put the pan in the microwave to heat up the cloth, but not so hot that it burns your skin. Find a comfortable place where you can sit and relax for a bit, and put the warm castor-soaked cloth directly on your abdomen or wherever you need it. Place a piece of plastic wrap (to contain the oil) on top of the cloth and place a heating pad or hot water bottle on top of that. The heating pad will keep the cloth warm for the 20 minutes that you must leave it on for.

When you are done, put the castor soaked cloth back in the pan, cover it with plastic, and store it in the fridge. You can re-use this pack 20 to 30 times, adding a little more oil as needed. Remember, because this is oil, it will leave an oily residue on your skin which you may want to wash off to protect your clothes and sheets.
