Is an Acidic pH Impacting Your Health?
Submitted by American Biologics

Stiff joints. Sapped energy levels. Poor circulation. Chronic inflammation. Muscle soreness. These are just some of the conditions that can arise if your pH levels are out of balance. The letters pH stand for "potential of hydrogen." Your body needs to attract a certain number of hydrogen ions in order to secure balance and health. pH refers to the acid/alkaline balance of blood, saliva, urine, or inter-cellular and extra-cellular fluids. pH is measured on a scale of zero to 14 with zero being most acidic, 14 most alkaline, and 7 neutral. Optimal pH for all bodily fluids is mildly alkaline, between 7.365 and 7.45. A balanced pH improves your overall health; if you are athletic, a balanced pH advances your physical performance.

Your normal metabolism generates large quantities of acid that must be eliminated in order to maintain pH balance. Many who suffer from unbalanced pH are overly acidic. This is aggravated by the standard American diet—a diet that is high in animal proteins (meat, eggs, and dairy products), refined flour, sugar, coffee, and soft drinks. This acidic environment forces the body to borrow minerals (such as calcium, magnesium, and potassium) from vital organs and bones (potentially leading to osteoporosis) to help neutralize the acid and remove it from your body. Although less common, some bodies have too high of a pH; they're too alkaline. This is often caused by excessive vomiting, high cholesterol, endocrine imbalance, and a poor diet.

In order to balance your body's pH, it is essential to consume several servings of fruits and vegetables on a daily basis. Additionally, reducing refined and sugary products in favor of whole grains (examples: brown rice instead of pasta; oatmeal instead of Lucky Charms) will greatly help to balance your pH. Artificial sweeteners and sugar are highly acidic; switching to stevia, maple syrup, or raw honey can help your body to reach a desirable pH level.

While positive diet and lifestyle changes are essential to reaching a balanced pH, supplements can provide the extra support needed to reach this state of balance. Supplementing with American Biologics Ultra Acid-Base Balance on a daily basis helps establish and maintain proper pH balance and as a result, improves energy and endurance. This is achieved through a balanced combination of the following ingredients:

Dipotassium Phosphate
This compound is a mixture of potassium and phosphate. Phosphate is a "shock absorber;" it buffers our cells when acids are being produced. Potassium is depleted by the acids being produced in our bodies; this compound will help prevent that depletion. For athletes, dipotassium phosphate will lengthen the time that lactic acid is produced, helping you to improve both aerobic (cardio) and anaerobic (weight lifting) performance.

Sodium Bicarbonate
This compound is very alkalizing and helps to protect the muscles from lactic acid. Research has shown that taking sodium bicarbonate before exercise can help prevent muscle cramping and fatigue.

Magnesium Orotate
This compound is pivotal in maintaining high levels of the energy-producing molecule known as adenosine triphosphate (ATP) because all ATP molecules are bound to magnesium. The orotate form of magnesium helps your body to better absorb the magnesium. Research has shown that magnesium orotate improves heart function, tolerance to lack of oxygen, reduces structural damage in heart disease, and improves exercise tolerance in patients with coronary heart disease and in athletes.

Zinc Citrate
Zinc is an essential nutrient for every cell in your body. Because it helps transmit oxygen to your cells, improves immune function, and helps in the production of neurotransmitters, glucose, and insulin (your sugar regulating hormone), zinc is great at increasing our energy levels. Citrate improves our ability to absorb the zinc.

Manganese Citrate
This compound helps our cells' mitochondria to produce more of the aforementioned energyproducing molecule adenosine triphosphate (ATP). Citrate improves our ability to absorb manganese. This compound maximizes energy production while lowering the acidic burden.

Ultra Acid-Base Balance combines key ingredients to help establish, maintain, and nourish a healthy acid-base environment, which is essential for proper metabolism, strong bones, a healthy heart, and strong muscles. As a dietary supplement, take three capsules a day before or between meals. Before exercise or competition, the amount taken can be increased up to 12 capsules a day or as directed by a physician.
