Higher Dietary Magnesium Intake Lowers Hypertension Risks
Brought to you from the NEEDS Wellness Team

Data from a large, long-term investigation, called the Women's Health Study, was recently evaluated to determine the effects of magnesium intake on the development of hypertension (high blood pressure).

In this study, over 28,000 women were followed for approximately 10 years. At the beginning of the study, all of the women had normal blood pressure. Over 8,000 of the women developed hypertension during the 10-year period. A dietary questionnaire was used to track the amount of magnesium the women ingested. It was found that the more magnesium a woman consumed, the less likely she was to develop hypertension. Specifically, women who consumed approximately 430 mg of magnesium daily had a much lower risk for developing hypertension compared to women who consumed approximately 250 mg daily. Other factors that may help prevent hypertension include no history of smoking or diabetes and maintaining healthy cholesterol levels.

Though consuming magnesium in food and supplements is highly recommended, you can improve your magnesium levels by adding Magnesium Oil, from Essence of Life. A seawater extract comprised of 35% magnesium chloride plus other trace minerals, this "oil" (actually a brine) is meant to be added to a hot bath for maximum absorption to relieve the discomfort of sore muscles and joints. Because it is absorbed through the skin, there is no risk of laxative side effects. Works best when used as the label directs and in conjunction with Essence of Life's Magnesium Bath Flakes.
