DEHYDRATION : 100% Preventable if You Know What to Do
by Dr. Chris D.Meletis

Essential organs like the brain, kidney, heart, and nervous system can't function without sufficient water or minerals.

Since water makes up 70% of our muscles and about 75% of our brain, our muscles begin to ache and cramp and thinking is affected when minerals and water become depleted, making the daily replacement and maintenance of minerals and trace minerals critical.

TO HELP AVOID DEHYDRATION, THERE ARE TWO THINGS YOU CAN DO:

1. Drink enough water
2. Consume your minerals: sodium, potassium, chloride, calcium, and magnesium
A disparity in just one mineral can lead to substantial biochemical imbalances.

If you're athletic, dehydration takes on additional significance. Not only are you at higher risk, dehydration can decrease performance and endurance. Particularly important when exercising is ensuring that you boost your antioxidant intake to help reduce increased free-radical production that arises from aerobic exercise.

MINERALS IMPORTANT FOR OPTIMAL HYDRATION

SODIUM - Salt plain and simple. It's why we crave salty food after sweating.
POTASSIUM - The average American intake is only half as much as their sodium. A healthful intake is five times more potassium than sodium, attained easily by eating a vegetable- and fruit-based diet.
CHLORIDE - Essential to keeping both sodium and potassium in proper balance.
CALCIUM - Essential for proper cardiac and muscle function. When too low, one can get muscle cramps.
MAGNESIUM - When low, muscle spasms can occur. Also crucial for maintaining healthy airflow and to help keep blood pressure balanced.
TRACE MINERALS - The forgotten minerals. To rehydrate using them can help maintain overall health and optimal functioning and performance.

Dehydration can be avoided and remedied using a quality comprehensive electrolyte product. A good product will help replace the basic electrolytes such as potassium, sodium, magnesium, and chloride as well as the often-forgotten micronutrients such as trace minerals. Products designed to maximize health, performance, and quality of life, include: Electrolyte Stamina Power Pak and Electrolyte Stamina Tablets, from Trace Minerals Research.
