Did Your Doctor Check Your D Levels?
"For over a decade, multiple studies have proven that folks with low "normal" levels of vitamin D have way over double the risk of heart attacks and death. So what do you think of a family doc, internist, or cardiologist who doesn't even measure your vitamin D (and use the proper cut off, not the lab's antiquated values)? Anyone treating high blood pressure, arrhythmias, heart failure, coronary artery plaque, and other cardiovascular problems (as well as osteoporosis, implants, etc) has failed miserably by neglecting D3 4,000- 10,000 IU. In my book, I'd give him a failing grade."

The Chromium Caper Can Cure Cholesterol and Cravings
"Chromium is crucial for cholesterol control. Yet statins can actually mask the action of chromium. And other nutrients are crucial for control of cholesterol such as four of the eight parts of vitamin E called tocotrienols. Plus, Niacin Time, Vitamin C powder, etc, also lower HMG CoA reductase, the enzyme in the liver that creates high cholesterol. In other words, chromium, as one example, works on the same chemistry that the statin drugs do, but without poisoning the liver gene and causing the lifethreatening staggering symptoms of statins such as sudden amnesia, diabetes, Alzheimer's, depression, myalgia, and joint pain, heart disease, high blood pressure, hypoglycemic cravings, and cancers. Statins are capable of creating these by causing multiple nutrient deficiencies. All of this has been explained in The Cholesterol Hoax."

Questions about Strengthening Hair and Nails
Q: "As I get older, I notice my hair is thinning. Is there anything I can do for it? I think I take good nutrients and try to eat well."
A: Some folks have had increase in the volume of hair and their thinning hair has also become stronger and less likely to break with choline-stabilized orthosilicic acid. The best source is BioSil, a big squirt 1-2 times a day in water. This also helps your skin be less wrinkly, promotes good nail growth (especially after years of damaging nail polishes) and is crucial for bone growth. And remember from Pain Free in Six Weeks it's crucial for the electricity in the body, which of course runs everything. Be sure you're on the nutrients for bone building that have been in the last couple years of TW. How to Cure Diabetes has the most commonly low nutrients seen on the Cardio/Ion panel. If it's still a problem, you want to address hormones, xenobiotics like heavy metals, plus use Iodoral, use the Nico setting of the Lumen on top of your head and more."

Q: "While I am repairing my many nutrient deficiencies, I would like to do something for my depression. And I do not want to take the prescription antidepressants. What should I do?"
A: Many of the antidepressants work on boosting serotonin, one of the "happy hormones" or neurotransmitters of happy mood that we make. But as you know from previous TW only 5% of serotonin is made in the brain while 95% is made in the gut. So the health of the gut is extremely important. Having said that, one of the important metabolites in the human body and especially the brain leading up to making serotonin is S-adenosyl methionine or SAMe for short. You can get SAMEe 400 mg and take 1-2 every 8-12 hours as a trial. But remember that in order for it to work it needs B12 and folinic acid. So use one sublingual Beta-12 once or twice per day.

Also remember most importantly that the B6 which is responsible for the metabolism of our neurotransmitters of happy mood does not work until it is converted to pyridoxal-5-phosphate or P5P. The enzyme doing this requires zinc, which most people are low in, since the unavoidable food and environmental plasticizers (phthalates), heavy metals like cadmium, as well as many medications deplete zinc. Therefore you would also want to take 1-2 P5P."
