Vitamin D3 for Fending off the Flu
By Jennifer Morganti, ND, Director of Education for NEEDS
Vitamin D3 may turn out to be one of the
must-haves in your medicine chest as the cold and
flu season approaches. A four-month study done in
Japan on 167 school children found that kids who
took 1,200 IU of vitamin D had a 42% reduced risk
of contracting the seasonal influenza A infection as
compared to the kids who took placebo. Some of
the kids in the study had asthma, and it appeared
that vitamin D supplementation significantly
reduced their risk of having an asthma attack.
