Dr. Crook was a popular guest on local, regional, national and international television and radio programs, including Oprah Winfrey, Sally Jessy Raphael, Regis Philbin, The 700 Club, Good Morning Australia, TV Ontario and the BBC. He addressed professional and lay groups in 39 states, all Canadian provinces, Australia, England, Italy, Mexico, The Netherlands, New Zealand and Venezuela. He served as a visiting professor at Ohio State University, and the Universities of California (San Francisco) and Saskatchewan. Dr. Crook lived in Jackson, Tennessee, with his wife, Betsy, where he practiced medicine for almost 40 years. They had three daughters and four grandchildren. He compiled most of the manuscript for this book before his passing in October 2002. Dr. Hyla Cass, Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at the UCLA School of Medicine, has incorporated nutrition and natural health techniques into her practice for more than 20 years. She is now one of the foremost authors and speakers on the subject of integrative medicine. A graduate of the University of Toronto School of Medicine, Dr. Cass interned at Lost Angeles County-USC Medical Center, and completed a psychiatric residency at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center/UCLA. She regularly appears as an expert in the field on radio, TV, and in publications such as the Los Angeles Times, The Toronto Star, Cosmopolitan, Time Magazine, and People Magazine, and also writes for a variety of publications. She maintains a busy schedule of speaking engagements at health-related events around the country. Her topics range from complementary medicine and psychiatry to anti-aging, women's health, stress reduction, and natural treatments for addictions, anxiety disorders, and depression. She is committed to improving the health of individuals and communities, and, as President of The Healthy Foundation, dedicated herself to providing children and adults at risk of nutritional deficiencies with access to the benefits of nutritional supplements. Dr. Cass' years of experience have yielded the following principles: *Treat the whole person - mind, body, spirit, and environment. *Look first for the deepest root problems beneath any symptoms. *Apply a continuum of treatments, always beginning with the safest, most natural, and most benign. Her clinical "success stories" are described in her best-selling books, St. John's Wort: Nature's Blues Buster, in Kava: Nature's Answer to Stress, Anxiety and Insomnia (co-written with Terrence McNally) All About Herbs: User's Guides to Ginkgo, Vitamin C and Herbs and most recently, Natural Highs: Supplements, Nutrition, and Mind/Body Techniques to Help You Feel Good All the Time. Elizabeth Crook, daughter of Dr. William G. Crook, has spent her career helping people and organizations "take charge" and create positive futures for themselves. She has worked in corporate and not-for profit environments in the U.S., Canada and Latin America. Since 1992, she has been principal of Elizabeth Crook & Associates, Advisors and Strategists to Entrepreneurs and Organizations. This successful business consultancy helps organizations, entrepreneurs and individuals channel their experience and knowledge in order to make a difference in the world. Clients range from large institutions to fast-growth companies to foundations and boards. In addition to being a skilled facilitator, Elizabeth is a sought-after speaker on strategic growth, managing change, and personal strategic planning. For more than four years, she has served on the faculty of the Social Venture Institute at Hollyhock in British Columbia. Her lifelong interest in health, and especially women's health issues stems from her earliest role model and mentor, her father, and their endless hours of discussion on health issues. Currently she works on behalf of women's health issues as a consultant to physicians, nurse practitioners, nutritionists and other health care professionals. She is also actively involved on a volunteer basis with several non-profit organizations in Nashville, including an integrative healthcare center. Elizabeth is a graduate of Vanderbilt University and holds an M.S. degree from Tennessee State University. |
