A Difference a Decade Makes

• Americans were shown to have lower blood levels of vitamin D between the years of 2000 – 2004 as compared to those of1988 – 1994. Why? Research asks us to consider it is because we are avoiding sunshine and have higher rates of obesity. Obesity affects vitamin D by lowering its status, because the fat soluble vitamin gets stored in the fat cells. Therefore, heavier people need more vitamin D.

Caffeine Fix behind Lower Bone Density in Youth?

• A German study demonstrated that long-term consumption of caffeinated and un-caffeinated soft drinks correlated with lower bone mineral density in children and adolescents. This is critical information, because a person's bone density is built, solidifies, and reaches its peak during youth, only to decline with age.

High Meat-Fat Diets Raise Ovarian Cancer Risks

Diets high in meat and fats have been shown to increase a woman's risk of ovarian cancer. Diets rich in fruits and vegetables were not associated with reduced risk of ovarian cancer.

Needle to Relieve those Needling Headache

• A review of multiple research studies showed that needling acupuncture is more effective in relieving headaches than drug therapy. Acupuncture helps lessen headache intensity and decreases the frequency of headaches.
