Integrative Therapeutics Introduces K-PAX for Better Energy!
Submitted by Integrative Therapeutics

K-PAX® MitoNutrients™ supplements have been designed by Jon D. Kaiser, MD, an immune and mitochondrial health specialist with over 25 years clinical experience exploring the use of mitonutrient therapy in support of immune function and optimal energy production.*

Mitochondrial health is partially dependent on generating new mitochondria. This process slows with age. In contrast, mitochondrial health is also impacted by apoptosis, which can lead to a decrease in energy production. Both impact the number of mitochondria available within an individual. Optimal mitochondrial function depends on three factors. The first is the ability to quench free radicals produced in normal electron transport chain activity. Second, mitochondrial function depends upon the integrity of the mitochondrial cell membranes. Lastly, mitochondrial health and function requires the transport of critical metabolites into the mitochondria. To support these functions, key nutrients are beneficial.

This formula was developed to contain a key combination of micronutrients that helps support health and energy production of the body's mitochondria. This key combination includes nutrients that are not often found in multivitamins, but are important to mitochondrial function, including: acetyl-L-carnitine, N-acetyl cysteine, alpha lipoic acid, and other key nutrients that support mitochondrial functioning.

Acetyl-L-carnitine (ALC) has been shown to support healthy cognition and mental function.1,2* One role of ALC is to shuttle free fatty acids across the mitochondrial membrane. Fatty acids and pyruvate act as fuel for the mitochondria as part of the Krebs cycle (citric acid cycle).

The supportive effects of alpha lipoic acid (ALA) and its reduced form dihydrolipoic acid (DHLA) have been well established. It has the ability to scavenge free radicals, chelate metals, regenerate other antioxidants, and provide reducing equivalents.3* ALA is a cofactor for certain mitochondrial enzymes.

N-acetyl cysteine (NAC) is a detoxifier.4,5* It replenishes intracellular glutathione. Mitochondrial glutathione is the primary defense for maintaining the environments that support healthy mitochondrial function and cellular health.6

This formula has been studied with specific populations that experience varying levels of fatigue and mental alertness.7 This recently published study was a double-blind, placebo controlled trial, in which treated patients experienced substantial improvement in immune and energy measures, and treatment was well tolerated.
