What makes Folixor PLUS® even better is that the 1mg and 5 mg are now both 100% folinic acid. What is Folinic Acid? Folinic Acid (5-formyl-tetrahydrofolate ) is a bioactive form of folate. It is immediately available to be converted into 5-methyltetrahydrofolate (5-MTHF), the form of folate that circulates throughout the body and passes the blood/brain barrier. No enzymatic conversion is necessary for the utilization of folinic acid; therefore, anyone can benefit from folinic acid supplementation, even those who, due to genetic insufficiency, cannot properly metabolize supplemental folic acid. Why Choose Folinic Acid? Folinic acid supplementation does not result in un-metabolized folic acid, a concern as several studies have suggested a link between high folic acid blood serum levels and health problems. It has also been suggested that folinic acid is actually metabolized better than directly administered 5-MTHF.
