Guilt-Free Sipping

If you ever felt guilty about your addiction to that morning cup of Joe, you will want to read this one to relieve your worries. Drinking coffee can be a good thing because it contains chlorogenic acid, a potent antioxidant.

A study published in Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry recently found that chlorogenic acid may help preserve our vision. An animal study showed that chlorogenic acid appears to protect the retina of the eye, which is sensitive to free radical damage. In their test, they increased oxidative stress in the animals by administering nitric oxide. In the mice that were given chlorogenic acid in advance, there was significantly less damage to the delicate retinal tissue, which is responsible for our vision.

The antioxidant protection that coffee offers applies to other conditions, such as brain health, diabetes, and other age-related diseases. Maybe calling coffee a vitamin is a stretch, but if it helps you enjoy your morning ritual without guilt, then it might be worth the reach.

Life Extension's Rich Rewards™coffee beans are roasted gently and precisely in small batches with no additives or preservatives. And the HealthyRoast™ process preserves the special, naturally-occurring compounds found in coffee beans, making the coffee easy on your stomach. It is made from organic Arabica beans using a patented, 100% natural process called HealthyRoast™ which yields very high levels of chlorogenic acid.

The 100% USDA Certified-Organic Arabica beans used in Rich Rewards™ are grown deep in the rainforests of Central America using traditional and ecologically-sustainable coffee-growing practices. They're handpicked and Rainforest Alliance certified.

Studies clearly show the health benefits of coffee increase directly with the number of cups consumed per day. As many as four to twelve cups a day of conventional coffee greatly reduce the risk of most major diseases, including cardiovascular disease, diabetes, liver disease, and Alzheimer's disease. These new "polyphenol-retaining" coffees may provide equal benefits with only half the number of cups consumed.

In 1980, a group of coffee lovers in Ojai, California heard of a family farm in the mountains of Mexico that grew coffee naturally, the same way it had been when first found in the wild. Setting off on an adventure, these coffee lovers found a place where self-sustaining agriculture produced a smooth and aromatic coffee with no trace of bitterness. They came back and started Cafe Altura, the original organic coffee, so you can taste coffee the way nature intended.

Cafe Altura coffees are organically grown at altitudes above 3,000 feet on small familyowned farms from around the world. The coffee trees grow without the use of harmful chemical fertilizers and pesticides. Using compost and shade trees, Café Altura's farmers create a balanced, healthy, and self-sustaining growing environment that replenishes the topsoil and provides a winter home to many species of migratory birds. Cafe Altura buys from the same farms each year to insure the integrity and quality of their coffees.
