Reducing Cravings and Hunger with a Trace
Brought to you from The NEEDS Wellness Team

Could the key to maintaining healthy weight be as simple and inexpensive as a single mineral? A small clinical trial suggests it is so when it was recently found that a daily intake of 1000 mcg of chromium can help reduce cravings for sweets and fatty foods, as well as general hunger, ultimately resulting in weight loss.

Chromium is considered a "trace" mineral, meaning that only a small daily amount is required. This study used 1000 micrograms, or one milligram. It is naturally occurring in foods such as whole grains, brewers yeast, as well as some meats and cheeses. Past research has shown that as a dietary supplement, the picolinate form of this trace mineral is best absorbed.

This current chromium study involved 42 overweight women, whose average age and Body Mass Index (BMI) were 33.2 and 31.3, respectively. Daily for eight weeks, half of the women took 1000 mcg of chromium picolinate, while the other half took a placebo. The women continued to eat their normal diet and recorded their food intake for the duration of the study. The women who took the chromium had lower hunger levels, craved fat less, and ate less food overall. These women lost .5 kg as compared to the women taking the placebo, who gained .5 kg over the eight-week study.

The NEEDS Wellness Team recommends Thorne's Chromium Picolinate, 500 mcg, one capsule twice a day, to help regulate cravings and food intake.
