Bones are Better with Vitamin D AND Calcium
Brought to you from the NEEDS Wellness Team

Vitamin D. There has been a lot studied about it lately. What isn't it good for? Proper vitamin D supplementation (in the form of Cholecalciferol or vitamin D3) has been used effectively with such conditions as Crohn's disease, depression, Celiac disease, hypertension, not to mention its well-established connection to bone health. A recent study takes us back to the basics: vitamin D is indeed very important for building strong bones, but not on its own. Its benefits are notably improved when combined with calcium, likely because it enhances the absorption of this important mineral. A recent study evaluated four different osteoporosis clinical trials. It was determined that vitamin D (at doses of 700 - 800 IU) plus calcium (at doses of 500-1200 mg) helped build bone enough to reduce fractures by a significant 18%, especially when compared to vitamin D alone and placebo.

Fractures from osteoporosis significantly increase the rate of death, due to progressive complications. In addition to taking calcium and vitamin D, weightbearing exercise, such as weight lifting, is critical to building bone density, preventing fractures, and reducing mortality rates.

Algae Based Calcium from Natur- Tyme is an excellent choice. Aquamin mineralized red algae is collected in the pristine Arctic waters of Iceland. It is rich in calcium, magnesium and 72 trace minerals. Aquamin helps to mineralize bone cells, and supports bone density and strength. Bone mineralization is also enhanced when taken with Vitamins D-3 and K-2.
