Alpha Lipoic Acid (ALA) is a fat-soluble and water-soluble anti-oxidant. In cells, the reduced form is able to regenerate anti-oxidants such as glutathione, vitamin C and vitamin E. The antioxidant effect is excellent for individuals with compromised hepatic function. Its ability to increase cellular glucose uptake is found to be useful in diabetics, and studies show that ALA with L-Carnitine helps to improve memory performance.
