Q. What is Beta-1,3/1,6-D-Glucan?
A. Beta-1,3/1,6-D-Glucan is the dietary ingredient in MacroForce. Immudyne's Beta-1,3/1,6-D-Glucan is purified from baker's yeast. It is over 95% pure, and non-allergenic because it does not contain any proteins.
Q. How does Beta-1,3/1,6-D-Glucan work?
A. Beta-1,3/1,6-D-Glucan activates macrophages which are white blood cells of our immune system. Their main function is to support the immune system so that it functions more efficiently and effectively.
Q. What is the proper dosage?
A. Depending on the weight of the individual, the recommended dosage is 0.1 to 0.5 mg of Beta-1,3/1,6-D-Glucan per kg (2.2 pounds) of body weight.
Q. What is the difference between yeast derived Beta Glucan and that derived from other sources?
A. In general, Beta-1,3/1,6-D-Glucan from mushrooms is 10 to 50 times less active than yeast Beta-1,3/1,6-D-Glucan. Beta Glucan from other sources such as oats and barley may not have Beta 1,6 linkages and thus may not be able to bind to the specific macrophage receptor.
