Product Description: We're the best coatings choice for personal health - especially for the chemically sensitive - and we're proud to be one of the only doctor recommended coatings on the market. You'll breathe easier knowing that our unique formulations help block toxic emissions from seeping into your environment. Plus, our premium quality produces beautiful results. You don't have to give up style for health with our vast spectrum of paints, stains and clear finishes. No animal testing - ever.
Safer for the environment, better for your health. Harmful chemicals in conventional coatings reduce air quality and prolonged exposure is proven to cause a wide range of illnesses and health problems. Safecoat is the only company with a complete line of chemically responsible building products that put your health first. Our products are certified to the highest standard of environmental safety, and then go even further to set new standards for protecting personal health through reduced toxicity. For over a quarter of a century, we have developed the safest, healthiest, premium-quality, high-performance paints, clear finishes and other building products. You can trust your home - and your health - to Safecoat.
The Safecoat family of clear finishes provides premium quality coatings for a wide variety of surfaces. Uniquely designed for optimal air quality and minimal exposure to chemical toxicity, Safecoat formulas are ideally suited for areas in which the health of occupants is of particular concern, including schools, hospitals, homes and offices. Safecoat clear finishes contain no formaldehyde, ammonia, aromatic hydrocarbon compounds or hazardous air pollutants.
Doctor recommended. Non-toxic, premium quality. SCS certified. Minimal outgassing; very low VOC content. Very low odor upon application and odor free once cured.

Safecoat Acrylacq is a clear, hard and durable satin finish, water-based replacement for high solvent content lacquer. Its very low odor and VOC content has allowed it to be used even in the homes of the chemically sensitive. Safecoat Acrylacq seals in outgassing from the substrate, and has superior resistance to stains, marring, and fingerprint marks. It is ideal for surfaces such as wood cabinetry and doors, paneling, furniture, wood railings, and some vinyl and other plastic surfaces (always test for compatibility with surface). Also available in gloss.

Warnings: Warning! If you scrape, sand, or remove old paint, you may release lead dust. Lead is toxic. Exposure to lead dust can cause serious illness, such as brain damage, especially in children. Pregnant women should also avoid exposure. Wear a NIOSH approved respirator to control lead exposure. Clean up carefully with a HEPA vacuum and a wet mop. Before you start, find out how to protect yourself and your family by contacting the National Lead Information Hotline at 1-800-424-LEAD or log on to www.epa.gov/lead.
Health Precautions: As with all coatings and stains, keep container tightly closed and out of the reach of children. Do not take internally. Always use adequate ventilation. Wear a mask when sanding and avoid breathing sanding dust. If you are chemically sensitive, always test for personal tolerance. Avoid contact with skin and eyes and avoid breathing of spray vapors and spray mist.

Additional Info: Made in the USA.
Limitations: Safecoat Acrylacq is made without conventional formaldehyde preservatives. Do not contaminate. Store in air tight containers. Do not subject coating to temperature extremes. Do not use when temperatures are expected to fall below 55 degrees F. Do not freeze.
Limited Liability: Safecoat products are guaranteed not to be defective when properly applied. Liability express or implied is limited to replacement of product or refund of purchase price and does not include liability for labor costs or consequential damages. Variable factors out of manufacturer's control, such as environmental conditions, application techniques, and surface conditions are critical to results obtained. Users are expected to exercise reasonable care to determine suitability of the product for each application. This limited warranty may not be modified or extended by manufacture's representatives, distributors, or dealers of AFM products. We strongly recommend that users always test in small inconspicuous areas before application to the entire surface.

Suggested Use: Surface Preparation: All surfaces must be clean and free from dirt, dust, grease, wax, oil, silicone, tsp/soap, mill scale, oxidation, or any foreign matter contaminants. Remove all mildew before coating any surface. Old coating should be completely removed before applying Acrylacq (cratering may develop if old finish remains). Apply test patches before undertaking large areas to assure good adhesion and lack of surface contamination. Wood staining should be completed before applying finish coats. Sand wood with the grain only. When surfaces have been sanded, dust and vacuum thoroughly to remove debris and then use a damp rag to remove dust before applying finish coats. (Note: Tac rags may leave a residue that can interfere with flow and adhesion causing surface defects.) Wood surface may be dampened to raise grain, sanded, and then wiped free of dust before applying stain or finish. Moisture content of wood should be below 12% for best results. To achieve a satin finish on wood, apply multiple thin coats of Safecoat Acrylacq Gloss until the surface is completely sealed, followed by one very thin final coat of Safecoat Acrylacq Satin. Too thick application of satin finish can cause a slight cloudiness or loss of clarity, particularly over dark wood, so take care in application to apply only a very thin coat.
Application: Always have adequate ventilation. Apply test patches before undertaking large areas to assure good adhesion between Acrylacq and the surface to be coated. Intermix (boxing) all containers of the same sheen to ensure gloss uniformity before applying. Before using, mix coating thoroughly by gently stirring or rolling container to avoid air bubbles. Be sure to stir product thoroughly every 20 minutes during application. Do not shake container. Pour material to be used into another container before applying coating to avoid contaminating main container. For best results, work in a dust free environment. Use a quality nylon brush, pad applicator, or a spray applicator. Do not use a roller. Items may also successfully be dipped in Acrylacq. Apply liberal coats, keeping a good wet edge and avoid over brushing. Avoid working back into areas that have started to dry. In most cases, 3 coats are required, depending on the surface. Apply thin even coats when spraying rather than heavy coats which will tend to sag (correct sags or runs within 2 minutes with a lint-free rag, sponge, or brush dampened with water). If spray pattern begins to dryspray, reduce air pressure and increase material flow to surface. Choose unheated spray applicators over those that heat material. When spraying, use a 0.015 tip or smaller. Only stainless steel or plastic spray applicators should be used. Sand between coats with aluminum oxide or silicon carbide sandpaper. Use a damp rag after sanding to remove dust particles. Avoid applying coatings when air or surface temperature is below 55 degrees F or when heavy fog or rain is imminent. Use only during low or moderate humidity conditions. Applying this product over lightly dampened surfaces can assist the user in controlling the dry time. Smoother finishes are achieved when surfaces are damp during application. Acrylacq can be buffed or rubbed out after 1-2 days of cure (although for best results allow to cure up to 7 days). Take care to avoid generating excessive heat when buffing. Note: These instructions are intended to be general only and not exhaustive. The applicator should determine which preparation and techniques are best suited to the specific surface. See product data sheets for most current information.
Clean-Up: Clean tools and equipment while they are still wet with a solution of SafeChoice Super Clean and warm water. Properly dispose of all soiled rags. Protect unused product from freezing. To recycle or properly dispose of paint in your community call 1-800-CLEANUP (USA only) or visit www.Earth911.org.
Drying/Curing Time: Under normal conditions, Safecoat Acrylacq dries to touch in 1 hour, is sandable after 2-4 hours, and is re-coatable after 4-8 hours. The product will continue to cure and become harder over time; avoid moderate use for at least 24 (and preferably 48) hours after application, and avoid heavy use for as long as possible up to 7 days. Normal conditions include a clean, dry surface, access to fresh air flow, a dust free environment, moderate humidity, and temperatures around 70 degrees F. Thick application, high humidity or conditions other than normal will cause Safecoat Acrylacq to dry and cure more slowly.
